Does Time heals?

Recently, I attended a Christian teaching series on healing of damaged emotions.

The speaker post a question, “Does time heal?”
She had a yes and no answer to the question.

As I pondered upon the question, I believe Holy Spirit gave me this understanding.

Time by itself does not heal. Time heals provided the healing mechanism is put in place to start the healing process.

How long to get heal depends on:
* the depth of the cut (wound)
* the existing condition of the person and
* the type of treatment being received

To parallel the healing of the emotion with the physical healing of a cut (wound).

The depth of the cut
Why a minor cut can be healed in one or two days? That is because God builds in us the self healing mechanism. If the cut is deeper, we will need external help to clean up the wound and stitch back the cut. It also take longer time to heal than a minor cut.

If we leave it untreated, it remains an open wound. When people unintentionally or intentionally touches our open wound, we react. We can manifest it in different negative ways. We may scream, shout, get angry, cry. Lots of negative reactions.

If the wound is properly treated and is healed completely, there is no pain in it. So we will not react when people touch it.

If the wound is very serious. Like a deep cut of the hand that it nearly disconnected from the body, it will be an emergency case. The wounded person will need to go to hospital and required more treatments. A specialist or a team of specialists is needed to connect back all the hand nerves and the hand to the body. Leave untreated, the wounded hand most likely to be gone forever.

The existing condition of the person
Whether the person is physically healthy or someone with chronic condition. And the degree of the chronic condition. This affects the speed of the healing. In addition, the willingness of the patient to cooperate with the medical staff. And the mental eagerness of the patient to get heal.

The type of treatment being received
Whether the treatment is done by skilled doctor. And the effectiveness of the medication.

In general, we know better in treating the physical wound because it can be seen. But the same principles apply to emotional wound and sickness in the mind. However, it may not be obvious for the person to know that he / she needs to be treated accordingly.

I know because God gave me some exposures in these areas: body, mind and soul (emotion). I know also because Jesus healed me of my emotional wound caused by my childhood experience.
